How to Make Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

Worcestershire sauce is a very useful ingredient in a variety of recipes. However, there are only a few vegan brands on the market, they are expensive ($0.52 to $0.82 per oz) and are not readily available. Also, only one vegan brand has a gluten free option, and it is $1.53 per oz!

This vegan and gluten free Worcestershire sauce takes just 20 minutes to make, tastes fantastic, and is really inexpensive! It does take quite a few ingredients to get just the right flavor, but this Worcestershire sauce is really easy to make. Most of the ingredients are readily available at your grocery store, but you will have to order two of them online. As they are incredibly useful in a variety of recipes, both are well worth adding to your spice rack!

I use Magical Seasoning Blend from Freely Vegan in nearly every savory recipe that I make! It adds just the right flavor and I absolutely love it! (If you are ordering it, be sure to check out their other seasoning blends too.)

Dulse is a seaweed, and it substitutes very nicely for the traditional anchovies in Worcestershire sauce. I order it from Vitacost:

Add all the dry ingredients to a small bowl, then stir them together.

Add all of the liquid ingredients to a small saucepan, and whisk to combine:

Add the dry mixture to the liquid, and whisk until all the clumps are gone:

Bring the sauce to a boil:

Reduce the heat, and simmer for 5 minutes:

Remove from the heat, and allow to cool:

You will need a 15 oz or bigger bottle to hold your Worcestershire sauce. Use a funnel to pour your sauce into the bottle:

My bottle wasn’t quite big enough, but that extra bit is going right into a big pot of vegan  “beef” broth!

You now have amazing vegan and gluten free Worcestershire sauce!
