Vegan Party Mix!

I was so excited when I figured out how to make vegan Worcestershire sauce because I thought I would be able to make vegan Chex Mix. However, Chex uses vitamin D3 that is derived from lanolin (sheep’s wool). I was so disappointed! I even called to verify their source of vitamin D, just to be sure! (If you still think wool and wool-derived products are ok, watch this video.) So, I had to get creative and this terrific party mix recipe is the result! Here are the ingredients you will need to make it:

Here are the crackers, pretzels, cereal, and nuts that I used. All are gluten free, but feel free to substitute with regular vegan crackers and pretzels if you don’t need gluten free. You might also have some additional vegan cereal options if you can eat wheat. If you are gluten free, pay close attention to shared equipment warnings on nuts. Planters and Fisher are usually safe, but Diamond and most store brands are not. Also, Cheerios aren’t vegan (D3 again), but Nature’s Path O’s worked perfectly!

Start by spraying a roasting pan with nonstick spray, then wipe out any excess. Add the pretzels and nuts to the prepared pan:

Melt the vegan butter (I use Earth Balance), then add the Magickal Seasoning Blend, onion powder, and granulated garlic. Whisk together.

Add the vegan Worcestershire and Frank’s Hot Sauce, then whisk again:

Pour the sauce over the pretzels and nuts. Mix together:

Add the crackers and mix again. Bake for 15 minutes at 250 degrees Fahrenheit:

Add the O’s and Skinny Pop Minis, then mix again. Waiting to add these until now keeps them from absorbing too much liquid and then shriveling up while baking.

Bake for another hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Don’t worry if the pretzels and crackers seem a bit soggy when testing when you stir. They will crisp up by the end!

Transfer half of the party mix to another pan or a sheet of parchment. Spread the mix out so it can cool quickly.

Store your party mix in ziplock bags or in an airtight container:

Enjoy!
