Movie Theater Style Popcorn!

This is not the healthiest snack, but it tastes just like the popcorn you get at the theater and is perfect for home movie nights! To make it, you need a combination of vegan butter (I use Earth Balance) and this butter-flavored coconut oil from Nutiva:

Nutiva uses red palm oil in this blend, but I checked their website and they say neither orangutans nor the rainforest is being harmed. Click this link for more info.

To make movie theater style popcorn, add one tablespoon of each Earth Balance Buttery Spread and Nutiva Butter Flavor Coconut Oil to a small glass bowl:

Heat in the microwave on high power for about a minute, until completely melted. Stir to mix together:

Add 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels (I use Orville Redenbacher’s) to a brown paper lunch bag:

Fold the top of the bag over twice, then lay the bag flat in the microwave with the seam facing down:

Pop the popcorn. The following times work in my microwave, but you may have to adjust them for your microwave. Cook on high for 1 minute 30 seconds, then remove the bag. Hold the bag from the top, and shake to get all the unpopped kernels to go to the bottom. Carefully open the bag, and scoop all the popped popcorn into a large bowl. Be careful not to touch the unpopped kernels as they are burning hot! Fold the top of the bag over again, and put it back in the microwave. Cook on high for another 50 seconds, then add the rest of the popped popcorn to the bowl. Most of the kernels should have popped and you should have about 8 cups of popped popcorn:

Drizzle the melted butter mixture over the popcorn, stirring after each spoonful:

Add salt to taste, then mix well:

Heat the coated popcorn in the microwave on high for 30 to 40 seconds, then serve and enjoy!
