Vegan White Chocolate Pretzel Mix

This delicious pretzel mix is one of my most requested recipes by friends and family! The combination of the white chocolate, salty pretzels, and the “M & M’s” is quite addictive! It is very easy to make, and it makes a great gift! Here are the ingredients you need to make it:

I use Snyder’s gluten free mini pretzels. You can use any brand of mini pretzels that you like, but stick with this shape as the candies stick best to them.

You will also need a vegan M & M copycat. I really like these dark chocolate crispy quinoa gems from Unreal. (I ordered them from Vitacost.) I have heard that the Little Secrets ones are also very good, but they only have two colors and say they do not verify that their sugar is vegan. The Unreal ones are multi-colored, say they are vegan, and look great in the pretzel mix:

I use these vegan white chocolate coins by King David brand. They melt well, taste great, and are available on Amazon:

Please note that you need to have a sheet of waxed paper and all of your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start making the recipe as the melted chocolate will harden pretty quickly. You do not need to rush, but you do not want to be opening bags after the chocolate is melted!

To make the pretzel mix, start by placing a two-foot long piece of waxed paper on your work surface, then add the pretzels to a sieve and shake them gently to remove the excess salt and any pretzel crumbs:

Next, add the chocolate coins to a large microwave-safe bowl and heat them on 50% power for one-minute intervals until the chocolate starts to melt. Stir in between each interval, even if it doesn’t look like anything is happening. Once, the chocolate starts to melt, heat at 50% power for 30-second intervals, again stirring after each one, until the chocolate is completely melted. Do NOT heat at full power, or you will ruin the chocolate!

Add the vanilla and a few drops of food coloring if you want the chocolate to be tinted. Stir together. I only added two drops of red color to this batch, and I would have preferred the color with three or four. Do NOT add more vanilla or color after the first addition, or your chocolate may seize up and get clumpy. This is why mine stayed too pale a pink!

Add the pretzels to the chocolate mixture, then stir until all the pretzels are evenly coated:

Add half of the “M & M’s” and mix them in:

Spread the mixture out on the sheet of waxed paper, then immediately sprinkle the remaining “M & M’s” evenly over the pretzels. Press as many of them as you can gently into the chocolate before it hardens. Allow the chocolate to cool and fully harden before moving to the next step.

It looks so good!

Once the chocolate is completely hardened, break the pretzel mix into pieces like this:

Transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature. When I am giving the mix as a gift, I like to put the pretzel mix into treat bags and add curly ribbons:

One batch makes about six good size bags of pretzel mix, but I only count on five so I can eat some too!

Enjoy!

  1. This looks yummy! Thanks for reminding us all how to treat our chocolate. I forget that I should not add extracts after the first stir-in. Last December I ruined several batches of melted chocolate.
I still ate them! I prefer not to waste. I will try this recipe. I’ll use Glutino pretzels.
