Thanksgiving for the Turkeys at Sunrise Sanctuary!

We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Sunrise Sanctuary! Every year they hold a special event called Thanksgiving for the Turkeys and it was a lot of fun!

We got checked in and then found our way over to the refreshment tables. Everyone brought a vegan dessert to share, and we brought cookies and brownies! We met Miranda and Eric who own Tofu Louie and my mom had some of their vegan chili! (I would have loved to have tried it too but it was made on equipment shared with wheat and I have celiac.) My mom says it was delicious!

After some snacks, we went around the sanctuary to see all the animals. I liked the pumpkins on this barn!

We saw a goat,

a pig,

llamas,

Roscoe the donkey,

cows,

(Wesley is over six feet high and weighs over 3,000 pounds!)

ducks,

horses,

And lots of turkeys!

Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who made Thanksgiving for the Turkeys such a successful event! We had a great time and plan to go back next year! Sunrise has open barn days frequently throughout the year, and we highly recommend going if you have the chance. It is a wonderful opportunity to see rescue animals in a healthy and caring environment!
