Mabon (or Thanksgiving) Recipes & Crafts

Mabon, which is the Autumn Equinox, is coming up on September 22nd for those in the Northern Hemisphere. I love the Fall, and all things apple and pumpkin spiced! This morning it was only 54 degrees outside and I made pumpkin pie spiced hot cocoa and pumpkin muffins to celebrate the cooler weather. They were so good!

The rather bare branches in the vase above are the start of our gratitude tree. We will keep adding leaves every day until Mabon night, when we will add the full branches to our bonfire. (Directions and photos coming in the next post.)

We went on a nature walk this afternoon to see the changing leaves and to start gathering wood for our Mabon fire.

Recent storms had knocked down a lot of branches and we picked up as many as we could carry.

We checked our little garden when we got back. Some of the cherry tomatoes were ripe, so we picked those to eat with dinner.

Mabon is the second harvest festival on the Wiccan calendar, and is often celebrated with a thanksgiving feast. I do not celebrate the typical American Thanksgiving for a number of reasons, but all of my Mabon recipes would be great for any Thanksgiving table, wherever you live and however you celebrate!

I have pinned lots of other people’s pins to my Mabon Board on Pinterest (not all of the recipes in the pins are vegan but they can easily be veganized.)

I also have a music playlist channel on YouTube where I have put together music playlists for all of the Sabbats. Click on the link to get to my channel (Pagan Music Playlists.)

I will be sharing lots of recipes, craft ideas, and fall activities with you over the next few weeks. I thought it would be nice to have this first Mabon post where I can add all of the links to the new recipes so they are easy to find. I also have quite a few recipes here on the blog already that are perfect for Mabon, so I will include those links below as well. If you would like to see a particular recipe that I have not done yet, then let me know in the comments!

  1. It would almost be too good to be true, but one or more of these?
    Veganized:
    -maple pecan pie
    -Mississippi mud pie
-non soggy spice cookie crumb crust (for pies, like pumpkin or sweet potato)
    -Watergate salad (green fluff)
    -lasagna
    -scalloped potatoes au gratin
    -duchess potatoes
    -potato lefse flatbread
    -beef stroganoff
    -Swedish meatballs
    -etc

Good vegan Swedish meatballs and lefse would be at the top of my wish list, then Watergate salad and maple pecan pie.

    1. That is a great list! Some of those would be pretty easy to veganize, some more difficult, and a couple I have not heard of so will have to do some research! Swedish meatballs are one of the easy ones, fortunately! Do you have a non-vegan recipe that you liked before you went vegan? It always helps to start with a really good non-vegan recipe.

      1. The Swedish meatballs recipe from Cooks Country/America’s Test Kitchen and then Skandinavian Feasts were my 2 favorites.
Lefse Time had the best lefse recipe. It was more potato then flour.

I love hearing from you! Please leave a comment!
